Okay, here is my second entry. I went for something a little more traditional for low resolution and colours.
I was really tempted to throw in some 3D stuff, but it just felt wrong somehow.

Wow!
This is really good, great work dude, keep it up!

Aww thanks :D
I loved doing this one, and I was tempted to keep adding things to it. However, I knew if I did, I'd probably not stop in time for the closing date ;)

The bar just got raised.. In a big way!

I'm so pleased you like it :D
I've got some more ideas along different themes, so I'll have to get started on number three soon. That one might take me a while...

Unbelievable cool - that's definately a very blasting production !!!
Very well done - nice effects and color scheme ! Btw. I really enjoy
reading your texts - already loved it in your first intro you released.
Regarding the competition - I cannot remember a competition which
has so many high quality releases like this one.

I can't take credit for the colour scheme as I picked them out of a gameboy screenshot, but I had fun with the effects. I just had to be careful to remember the gameboy method of only using black for outlining important screen items. As a result, the bubbly plasma and flowers only really use three colours. I was tempted to change the fourth colour to another shade of green but that would have then messed up the transition effect so I figured I'd behave like a proper gameboy and leave them alone ;)
I never quite know what to write in a text, so I just tend to sit down and type, rarely editing junk out. Although this time I had some fun with inline text deletion.
I fully agree with the standards of the releases and I'm really looking forward to seeing what else is released.

hehe, my wife thinks he's cute and complains when he walks off the screen.
When I was looking for music, I wanted something gameboyish and catchy and was amazed when I found that one so quickly,

Very nice I was wondering if anyone was going to use the original GB palette.
-
a really great one! maybe just the original Gamboy "ping" sound is missing ;)

Hehe, I'm glad you like it even with that missing element ;)

Wow! This is what you get when you stop taking a purely technical point of view of the problem, as nearly all the demos so far have done, and then take the constraints as part of the spec. Work *with* the the problem, not against it.
And I wish I could draw too :) Great demo.
Is it better being a coder who can draw, or an artist who can code? :)

Thanks Jim :updance:
I've had some really heart warming feedback to this one, which is pushing me to work on my next idea which is something different again ;)

Jim
I wish I could do either with reliable success, everything always seems to be a major uphill struggle. Either that or I'm inherently impatient ;)

It's all about variety :kewl: I'm very glad you found us all again!

So am I,
I forgot how much fun it was coding and sharing within a community.

Aww thanks :D
Looks like I have a lot to live up to with the third entry....

Wow, I really enjoyed this!
-
You've really got the knack for design in all of your stuff, and a very nice entry, welldone.
-
Awesome entry, real talented work. You have used a lot of time to code and think this up.
Very clever page switcher thingy.
Flowers seem a bit like inspired from the last rbz prod.
Gameboy 4ever!
Wonderful job Xalthorn!
I was just about to decide the voting candidates (atleast I thought so), but this prod really confused all my calculations ;D

I enjoyed making this one, but it was hard to work out when to stop and where to put things. Initially the bubbles were going to float in front (big) and behind (small) the dragon on the bridge, but that looked a little silly. I then thought if I put them with the plasma is would add to the bubbly, flowy, lava type effect, so that's where I put them.
Very clever page switcher thingy.
I was surprised how easy that was to implement. I knew I wanted an effect like that and prepared myself for a lot of head scratching but my first attempt at the algorithm worked. I'll be releasing the full source and associated files for these demos as soon as I've written up some comments to explain where my warped mind was coming from ;)

Although similar, they're not in the same league. I knew I wanted something to spin around but wasn't sure what. I considered using the skulls from an earlier demo, but that wouldn't sit well with the overall feel of the demo. In fact, nothing photographic would. When I realised I needed some sort of regular shape I dropped into photoshop and looked at the standard shapes. That one seemed to fit nicely and with a radial gradient fill over the top of it, it worked quite nicely. RBZ's flowers were generated on the fly whereas mine are simply a rotated bitmap.
Gameboy 4ever!
Absolutely ;)
Wonderful job Xalthorn!

Thanks again, I love these challenges, they give me an excuse to relax and think outside the box for a few weeks. Not to mention it's amazing to see what other people come up with, a lot of the entrants this time have blown me away. Some simply because of the sheer impressiveness of them, others for the fact that the author hasn't been doing these things for very long, and even others for taking a totally lateral approach to the challenge.
