Paradox - The Immortal cracktro
« on: June 28, 2008 »
Win32 Remake of the Paradox cracktro on Amiga
We once had a passion
It all seemed so right
So young and so eager
No end in sight
But now we are prisoners
In our own hearts
Nothing seems real
It's all torn apart

@AnimalMother: I have 30'' monitors at the office. Imagine the scale ratio!!!
@benny!: yes, this one does not have the requirements of pixel-aligned scroll text, so even with the vsync off it should be ok.

Great remake, the font in this one was always a little bit hard to read though!
I remember it well.

It's indeed the same code by Stormlord (M.A.D. / Paradox) but I spent some hours retyping the different tables for the zoom writer. I was arrogant enough to think that it could be an easy remake after the M.A.D. one... but I was wrong! I spent more time retyping the tables that the time I spent writing the zoom writer code.

And that's why they are really cool, every single remake must be hand coded, which makes all this effort really valuable.

Excellent work stormbringer K up. I guese the postal service was much more important to distrubuting demos back in the day lol. I really like these remakes I never had an amiga or any PC for that matter until I was an adult so its very interesting to see the stuff I missed out on.

@rain_storm: thanks mate! If you ever have a chance to get an Amiga, get one. Code some stuff in assembler and you will then understand how powerful this machine was! You will look differently at you PC after this experience...

and regarding the postal service.. well yeah! before the Web there were the BBSes, phone-line based servers that you could connect to via modems... when the line was not busy :D ... but before that yes, the postal service was the king. Picture this: hundreds of people sending floppy disks... carfully covered with aluminium paper to protected them from the X-ray machines at the customs :D

what a great time! I remember that after school we were always going to the post office to see if somebody from abroad sent us something to our P.O. Box!!! Then when this was the case, we rushed back home to unpack the parcel and see what was inside. Usually swappers or spreaders (the names given to the people in charge of the floppy disk exchange between groups) wrote endless letters. Of course it was great to read them!! pretty much like children getting presents at Christmas from Santa Claus!!!

now what? right click on the URL and "Save As..." ... definitely less charming ;)
