Music to code to
« on: April 10, 2011 »
I'm just curious what music people play when they're coding?

I seem to go through stages of either listening to hard rock or chip tunes.  I've had Cydonian Skies 1 and 2  by Dubmood/Razor 1911 on almost constant loop for the past month now :)

Rarely, I select some rock songs ... and personnal playlist (Multi kind of musics).

And really often -> https://www.scenemusic.net/

Because the demoscene never quits you :)
(Ok it was a bit of promotion ;) )
The demoscene will never die, never!

At home - 80's cheese on Youtube or demos on youtube running in the background.
My favourites at the moment are actually 2 4kb intros (dollop by sqny & receptor by tbc).

At work - SImilar stuff on the I-pod & also I have all the Surprise productions podcasts and most of Little Bitchards stuff on my phone so I put the headphones into that too :)

Music is a must for my concentration.

Yeah, I find music really helps me work. I have to turn down anything with lyrics when I hit a really complex problem though.

I keep seeing mentions of Surprise Productions podcasts. Are these from the S!P Amiga group? Will have to have a listen tomorrow.

Will watch those 4ks too Shockwave, don't think I've seen them yet.

LittleWhite, Scene promotion ftw ;)

Yeah, anything without many lyrics.  Orb, Orbital, FSOL, JMJ, Leftfield, Yes.

I love to code with synth music, perferably mesh etc. Next to it, I have a playlist of great future composer cracktro tunes which I listen endlessly to. FutureComposer is somehow my most favorite oldschool format. Even better than SID IMHO.

I like to put some rock or metal on while I'm coding, but only when I remember about it. Deep Purple and Black Sabbath are my favourites, though Mega Driver have recently found their way onto my playlist - they perform instrumental covers of 16-bit tunes. Their Sonic and Streets of Rage tracks are good.

If you can remember further than the Amiga, I simple adore listening to C64 Sid Tunes for inspiration when starring at an IDE.

A great player is XM Play and Sid Plugin and the most complete collection of Sid Tunage is High Voltage Sid Collection

( A tip make sure to unblock all the sid tunes, and set the plugins directory and music length settings ( including the SLDB ), to get XM Play to play for the correct duration. left mouse on back and forward buttons for the sub songs )

My favourite Artists that I listen to timelessly are: The Maniacs Of Noise ( Charles Deenan - Jeroen Tel ( turbo outrun is just out of this world imo ),   Reyn Ouwehand, Steve Rowlands . There's literally loads of cool note plexors, far too many to list!

Yeah, I remember the good old C64 Clyde. Unfortunately, I never owned one. My parent bought me a ZX spectrum as my first computer, which was truly abysmal in the sound department.  I remember coming across Ghosts and Goblins (or maybe it was Ghouls and Ghosts?) at a friends house many years ago and I was totally blown away by the music.  It had thunder noises as it rained in at the same time too.  That must have made quite an impression as I still remember it vividly.

The SID chip really rocked :)

Lately I have found myself usually listening to scenesat. This weekend they are live streaming from Revsion 2011. Nothing beats a live feed from a demo party to get into the programming and effects spirit

For me, when I'm coding, I prefer a total silence  ;)
So, no partycoding for me  :D

Irish Folk music
BeeGees / Disco
70's Rock
80's Rock / New wave
Foreign Kraftwerk / Yellow Magic Orchestra / Dschinghis Khan
Sometimes techno but I don't know any popular groups.

But hardly ever classical music...
