Cynix Remake
« on: April 02, 2013 »
Aloha!

Ok, it was about time I coded a remake again. Haven't done that in ages... It was coded rather quickly and I cheated like hell once again.  ;D The filesize might give you a hint.  Anyway, before uploading it to RR (and probably getting blamed for not using a 4:3 ratio in fullscreen ^^) along with KrazyK's D-Bug remake it'd be great if some of you guys tested it. Don't wanna have a bugfix discussion over there. ;)

Thanks in advance!

Pad

:( running supra-slow on my i7 double video card (ati and nvidia) on Seven Pro... windowed or fullscreen it looks like taking about 10 frames...

Have you tried this trick by Krazyk?

Thanks Kiri, glad to see this one isn't too fast for you this time.  How about windowed mode?

I discovered a really annoying bug with Purebasic when running fullscreen in Win7 with 2 monitors where it would simply crash all the time.  But i've now fixed it by disabling Aero for the duration of the demo by adding the following code after the fullscreen check.

Code: [Select]
If OSVersion()=#PB_OS_Windows_7 Or OSVersion()=#PB_OS_Windows_Vista
    OpenLibrary(1,"dwmapi.dll")
    CallFunction(1,"DwmEnableComposition",0)
    CloseLibrary(1)
EndIf

Thanks for testing guys! :)

@jace: Yeah,  I'm disabling Aero with the mentioned code. I really don't know why it is so slow on some Win7 machines. It appears to be a little, but just a little, slower on my Win7 compared to my XP system where it runs just fine. And how am I supposed to fix a bug which doesn't appear on my systems. *scratching head* Seems like Purebasic isn't the best choice for coding anymore, if you want your stuff to run fine on current OS. Annoying shite! Anyway, I'll have a look at the code later eventhough I have no clue what could cause the problem... :(

Thanks KrazyK.  ;)

Ok, I quickly put together a version based on my old "framework" for remakes. Standard 800x600 screen in both windowed and fullscreen. No adjustment to current desktop resolution, no special shebang and no use of CrapSprite() ahem I mean Grabsprite(). Please let me know, if it helps speed things up for you guys. Thanks!

Honestly, I have no clue why it's so slow. Maybe it has to do with the dual monitor setup. Or it doesn't like your ATI/Nvidia combination. It probably can't decide which one to use. :D Or it doesn' t like french OS's. That would explain why it doesn't work for Zorro either... :P Oh and btw: all my remakes work fine on my machines. Not just the old ones.  8)
