Two annoying forum bugs
« on: July 09, 2007 »
I've found a couple of bugs in the forum software today.
1) If you try to post a New Topic with an attachment that is too large (>300Kb) then when you try to repost with a smaller attachement or without an attachment you are not allowed to.  The forum reckons the post has already just been posted and considers it to be an accidental double post.

2) If you post between code tags a line while would stretch the forum, but which is under 2 lines long, you can't actually see anything in the box.  Like this one
Code: [Select]
dasjkdhasd;lkfjglkdfjgkj sasdfa fsdakjdlkfjksd asdflkfjk;as jsdjklasdf jjlk;sdj fasdjlk;asdjlfk; sdf jasdfj jlsdjkfs  jasdfjlkfkaslj f flksdfkasdjlk;  jlk;asd jflksdj f asdjlk; jfjkasdf jlk;asdjwworieuoriquoriuieqw ri eqw u  m,mvzxc vzxcnm,n v
Does anyone else see these problems?

Jim

Code box works fine here Jim I can see a load of random letters.

As for posting attachments >300 kb and then being told it's a double post it is probably flood control and it could be gotten rid of but leaves the board open to attack.

If it is not flood control doing that, then it would only be annoying if you repeatedly tried to post attachments >300kb, which tbh I have never done and I'd thank everyone to make sure that they optimise thier attachments to get them as small as possible before posting and wasting 300kb with a picture for instance that could have been converted to say a 25kb jpeg. Yes, this does happen.... Frequently.

Glad the code box works.  Maybe it's an IE7 or Vista specific html rendering problem?  I just add a couple of blank lines to fix it.

It's not flood control because I'm an admin!
Here's how to reproduce.
Make a zip file > 300Kb.
Start a New Thread
Type anything you like and add the zip as an attachment.
Post the message.
It will complain the attachment is too large and kick you back to the post with the attachment removed.
Post the message again.
It says 'you have already posted this message' ... Except you haven't!

You have to change the Subject for you to be able to post the message.

Jim

Thanks Jim, I'll post it at the smf help forums.

For everyone here, please do post your attachments, we welcome them, however for common senses sake, please get them as small as you can without degrading the quality too much before you post them, web space is not infinite.

It's simple to check the size of a file, right click it and then select properties. If your file is bigger than 300kb, it may be uploaded to the showcase (home page) IF it is a completed project (no works in progress). or you'll have to find hosting for it yourself (unless it is something of value to the community ~ if so please pm me or jim or any of the active moderators).
