Favorite Beatles' song?
« on: November 17, 2007 »
Just thought I'd ask what your favorite beatles song is? They may be a bit overrated but they did some really innovative work and seemed to really branch out from song to song.

My favorites:

Dr. Robert
Lucy in the Sky (With Diamonds)
Within You Without You
I Am the Walrus
Let it Be
All You Need Is Love
Hey Jude
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Reprise
The Long and Winding Road
Here Comes The Sun
Strawberry Fields Forever

I dont know about that over-rated comment. they were selling platinum at a time when the entire market was a whole lot smaller todays pop fanbase. Why the beatles created pop music and the boy band thing. They are still selling music and that means a lot cos music often suffers from the generation gap. A gap that few bands have managed to cross. Anyways heres a few that I like that have not been mentioned

Help
Yellow Submarine
Hard Days Night
Lady Madonna
She Loves You (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)
Something In They Way
Come Together
Get Back

Nice List you picked there Pixel_Outlaw :D

Well some people have said they are overrated. I would agree with you. They were a force of nature not a simple band.

I tend to like the abstract songs where the lyrics are more about wordplay and or drug references.

Beatles over-rated? They have influenced so many musicians.. Anyway, my favourite Beatles track is Paperback Writer, reason being the old gear that they recorded the song on and how good it is.

In the background if you listen carefully you can hear them singing a nursery rhyme, if you took that out the song would not sound half as good.

Miles ahead of everyone at the time and today too.

I can't stand them simply because the lead singers voice makes me want to gouge my ears off. The lyrics and instrumental though are class. Speaking of which, did they make any instrumental tracks? Cause I'd definatly listen to them!
I love semi-colons way too much ^^;

I prefer Lennon's voice to McCartney's.

Checked out wikipedia
"Cry for a Shadow"
"Flying"
are both instrumentals.

I prefer Lennon too but Paul's voice is much better suited to alot of their songs so its kinda 60/40 with John takin it by a good 20% margin

I am more or less one of the original, Beetles  listeners.  I have searched through my archives (brain)
and I can almost certainly say they never made any instrumental tracks.

One of my favourite backing groups of the era performed with Cliff Richards. The Shadows           They made some really fabulous recordings.

I got into the Beatles through Oasis, They did a few cover versions I looked up the originals and it kinda snow-balled there for a few months as Beatle fever hit me. Since then I have come to appreciate the classic rock / pop legends. Dylon, Cash, Hedrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc. etc. Now I look at new music and wonder how long people will be listenin to these songs

I have to agree with that thought. How many times do you hear a rap or pop artist come out with a new song that lasts maybe a week tops then you never hear it again. The material of the 60's-80's music was timeless in many cases. Songs were about the writers themselves and not a false persona. How many people can relate to being a millionaire gangster from the poorest part of town or horny pop idol? The very fabric of the songs is faulty. Many song writers don't write about the common man but about fake and impossible to validate characters.

The only rapper that I have CD's of is Tupac I like Snoop and all that NWA stuff but mostly I dont go for that type of music cos I cant relate to it. And I think that only a few of the newer rappers are actually from a ghetto despite what they might say. But RnB is good to bounce to in the night club.  :||

While I don't fully understand the appeal of the Beatles, I am fond of serveral of their songs:

Imagine
Penny Lane
Let it Be

And these parodies are quite relevent I think:
