This might be handy to know. (or not)
« on: June 12, 2008 »
Yabasic (Yuku) has live chat running.
I've tried it on P.C's in the same building.
Just thought I'd make it known.
Use it or not.
Have a Yahappy day.

They probably broke it or something and accidentally switched it on.

Those forums are dead.  Really.  I shut them down myself nearly 2 years ago.  Yuku is for retards.

If you're really lucky you might get to speak to someone selling rolexes or viagra or subscriptions to porn sites in the chat... Ezboard (and I assume YUKU) was always infested with people trying to sell that shit.

Makes for a great place to put garbage and provide a link to for people who don't have their own website.
Sort of like those diary and photo album websites.
I put in an old exercise of movie dialogue of 2000 lines.

Why not get some webspace instead? You could have 100gb for £3 per month. You could install wordpress or php nuke on there and have your very own archive.

It was ages before I got P.C.
I kept telling myself I didn't really need one.
Then I kept telling myself I didn't really need internet.
I also couldn't find a use for a laptop. Then the prices came falling down.
Now I'll be telling myself I don't need webspace.

The slick new forums that yuku dynamically created from byabasicprogramming seem to have some nice ghosts (bikemadness, adbot scripters who wish they were playwrights and guests) occupying them.

I logged in about a week ago and made a post so the site doesn't just get trashed.  There were only 3 spams to delete.  I think the 2 posts a day is an average over the whole site's lifetime.
Good news is I've re-parsed into a database all the html (1Gb of it!) that I hoovered off the site the day we left.  The simple thing to do now is to build some static html to hang all the posts from.  Maybe I'll get time to do that bit this year  :-\

If you don't have the time to do it Jim, just give me the data and I'll be happy to.

You can host it all here within this domain, on a subdomain or a completely seperate domain of your own if you like.

It's a shame to see the old place fall into the hands of Yuku and their fake watch/medicine/prawn selling brethren.

Any plan to re-site our old material gets a thumbs up from me.
