As this is going to take a few weeks to get finished and I want to launch the next comp before then I have put the new front page live.

Over the next few weeks there will be 3 more options added to the navigation in the top, the three options will be;

1: Showcase

This one will enable to search by author or competition and each author will have thier own page to show how many challenges they have won.
You'll also be able to rate entries.

2: About DBF
This second bit is mainly an excuse to stuff a page full of SEO

3: Links
There will be a proper links page. If your link was on the original page, don't worry it will be back!

Order of completion..

Firstly there are a load of html errors I need to fix to make the page standards compliant, that will be the first task.
tutorials *may* be placed back on the front page somewhere... Dunno yet, depends on the SEO and our position in Google,
Secondly, the About page will be added.
Thirdly the links.
Fourthly the showcase.

Plus I need to make an interface for the moderators to mod the shoutbox.

Please allow me a couple of months, say 8 weeks to get this all done

Maybe we are showing too much posts from the forum ... I am saying that because we can see multiple times the same thread in the list which I think is more than annoying (for the visibility)
Or maybe, use multiple colors (let's say the nicknames in a different colors and the title with a colour which alternes line by line ... ( https://www.scenemusic.net/demovibes/queue/ like these tables

There are 40 recent topics shown, it's easy to change the number, but perhaps as you say, alternating the colours is a better idea than reducing the amount of topics. I will try that out and see how it looks.

The new front page is a lot less cluttered than the old one though and I've avoided having a huge visible list by putting the content in scroll boxes.

Thanks for the kind words. I have to admit that Shockwave gave very good feedback on the flash banner that make
it what it is now. And I totally agree with you - the header is not meant to be an intro!

That new Flash banner is really eye-catching. It captures the essence of what the site is about, while not being "in your face" like so many other banners can be.

I think it looks really good Shockwave. Only thing I'd prefer is maybe a slightly smaller font size. The flash starfield banner is really nice

Hmm, yes, the font size on the forums is smaller.. Perhaps that's not such a good match. I'll see how it looks with slightly smaller text.
