Dark Man Pic
« on: August 16, 2006 »
I came 4th at the Digital main event gfx competition in 1991 with this pic. I would have come third but I agreed to take a picture of Judge Dredd which was drawn by my mate Lynx of Rebels along to the party and enter it on his behalf unfortunately Lynx's pic was better according to the judges (I didn't think so, the pics and demos and everything were voted on by members of Digital only). Anyway, the party was cool and this picture brings back happy memories of the guys I met at the party, getting pissed and then ending up spending the night in Rotherham police station with Hawkeye / Tecknic and two members of Quartz.

Some of you might remember where the inspiration for the pic came from, there was a piss poor film going about at the time called Darkman, this is him.
Watchman of LSD also drew a picture of Darkman, his city scape was better than mine but I didn't like his picture of Darkman as much, even though I got his right hand wrong on my version.

Hope you like it.

I did a better fullscreen pic than this in ehb interlace mode of a gladiator, it was used on a Wizzcat Messagebox, I'm trying to find it on the internet, I entered it into the quartz party and it came 4th or 5th.

Nicely done shockwave. The colours give me ideas. The strong blue v orange lighting is typical of movies. Connect one of these modern LCDs or a good plasma to a dvd player and get star wars or lord of the rings or king kong or ... and its blue on one side and orange on the other. Just like your pic. I reckon we should use more of this in demos...it would give a more movie like feel and even if it were subtle would make people feel the demo was higher quality I think.

Maybe I'll try it in my mega demo 2032.

Yeah, you're right there. So many otherwise cool effects fall flat on their ass because of bad colours, then on the other hand all you need to do is take your pic of the Traction demos. Most of them are pitifully simple, wire frame vectors, splines and cubes but they are made cool by slightly above average transitions and brilliant colour choices.
