my 1st commercial game project!
« on: May 23, 2012 »

I just wanted to show off my first professional game project. The game itself is pretty drab (it's basically a discount give away), but I'm pretty excited about working with the studio that hired me (as are they). I did some 3d models for them a short while ago and they're now planning to switch to games, so hopefully we'll do some cooler projects together in the future.

You can play it on: bruynzeelkeukens.nl (they sell kitchens), just click the ad in the banner to play it. I didn't include a direct link in order to prevent them from seeing where the traffic is from. I'm not too keen on them finding me here...

Would like to hear what you think about it. As I said the game itself is pretty drab, but it's still really cool to see everything running on my code (and you can make a mess of the kitchen). I also hid some secret greetings to the people I worked with in the menu. Haha  ;D

Yeah cool game. Well done.

One thing that irritated me first is that the action is triggered on MouseUp instead immediately on MouseDown - once I knew it though it was better to control the aiming.

Makes fun - and I really like the destructable surroundings !

Keep it up, mate!

Geez and I thought Angry Birds was tricky!  Excellent stuff!  I am pleased to say I scored three goals and managed to win 10% off a fart washer! [1]

Looks very polished Kirl, well done. The mouse-up thing threw me for a bit too, is there a reason why the event doesn't fire on mouse-down?

I managed to get the first couple of balls in fairly easily, but the fridge proved to be too much of a challenge for my poor ball skills. Much like real life :)

Thanks for the great feedback all (lol @ jim)! :)
I'm not sure why I used a mouse up event instead of a mousedown (meaby habitual as I tend prefer mouseup on buttons so people can change their mind mid-click). All I can say is that I'm happy everything sort of works after after many sleepless nights. We had a really tight deadline (10 days) to get everything working. I did the programming, 2 others the graphics and another guy fixed the external php scripts for the automail and the FaceBook integration.

It was a first for me and off course technical difficulties enhanced the fun; my mail stopped working for the 1st time in history, had to switch mail mid project after I found out 4 days later, and my laptop couldn't open the source file in the last days (due to a corrupted PNG as I eventually found out).

I was really sweating it near the end (lot's of game-breaking bugs). Especially since I'm the guy that puts everything together, if I failed everybody did. It's good to look back on it though, it was worth it. :)

Thanks CK, there are 5 breakable things in there, the trashcan, pot/pan (gives a nice gooie mess), window, fruitbowl and the glasses and plates. :)
