Pompey Pirates Menu 1 v2
« on: September 28, 2012 »
Nearly finished my latest Win32 Remake and thought I would get some feedback before finishing it properly as there's always something to add/fix or change. . . they're never actually finished !
Could you report any errors, bugs, comments or suggestions here please?

Thanks Kiri, glad to see this one isn't too fast for you this time.  How about windowed mode?

I discovered a really annoying bug with Purebasic when running fullscreen in Win7 with 2 monitors where it would simply crash all the time.  But i've now fixed it by disabling Aero for the duration of the demo by adding the following code after the fullscreen check.

Code: [Select]
If OSVersion()=#PB_OS_Windows_7 Or OSVersion()=#PB_OS_Windows_Vista
    OpenLibrary(1,"dwmapi.dll")
    CallFunction(1,"DwmEnableComposition",0)
    CloseLibrary(1)
EndIf

Works fine under windows 7 64-bit.
Neat touch with the disk sounds, I actually looked at my pc tower when that happened.

great work, and thanx for the trick: I will get my new station at work in a few week, and it will be on 7 (I'm actually using XP on 2 screens!)

Will make a complete patch for all my remakes  ;D

Thanks for feedback guys, glad you liked it.  The disk sound was straight from my ST, which I have set tp next to my PC, and thought I would be nice to add to this intro like my Automation 384 remake.

@Jace, I only discovered that bug recently as my only other dual screens (at work) were also XP, which as you know work fine.  But that simple piece of code sorts it out nicely.

Good job as usual.  :) The only thing I want to mention: in the original the 'menu text logo thingy" jumps up and down. In your version it just swings up and down, if you know what I mean. But besides that it's great.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I haven't quite finished it yet and that's one of the things I need to modify.   Just  a few more lines . . . . .

[Edit]
Menu updated here with a better bounce. . . that should be it now. . .

crash on "old" XP sp3 dx9 runtime vc2005-2008
same bug with all your prods (sorry) since I changed gfxcard and updated dx9 : some old prods crash with the same message "memory access violation", "memory cannot be written"

also with some of my prods crunched with fsg, mew or kkrunch (Pha CS1/2 remakes, paradox cracktros) : I recrunched them with upx, it's ok now.

But I have the same bug now with an old demo : "Natural Beat" http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=11058 : don't work anymore since the upgrade, but work fine under Vista DX11 and Seven 64 DX10 !!

Same thing with 2 others prods : "Ruff'n Tumble remake preview" dl here and "Ruff'n Tumble Mashup" exe version.

explanation, solution ??

Downgrade to your old config.  ;D

Jokes aside.  ;) Since you've mentioned that you got issues with some exe packers even with your own prods: It seems like this one uses some sort of UPX modification (haven't checked the other ones yet). So maybe the packer is the problem here again.

What's causing it. No idea. Maybe your AV? All of KrazyK's prods run fine on my XP machine. (and on my Win7 x64)

KrazyK? Could you provide a normal UPX packed version to test if that works?

[Edit] Ruff'n Tumble remake preview works fine on my XP as well. Cool stuff btw!! ;)

@padman : I just tested your prods from retroremake crunched with hacked upx : same crash now !

about Ruff'n Tumble, seems not packed. I have the message "Memory access violation".
Too bad, no more news from the author Shezzor :

I can't upload the Dump on this board because this coded Cracktro is not from me :)

Sorry I don't recall what version of UPX I used. I dropped using the "hack" a while ago, since it always gave false positives with my AV. All my newer prods are just UPX packed. Btw I don't see a point to re-pack 20+ prods just because they don't work on one machine. XP is quite obsolete anyway. Let's rather find out what causes the problem!  ;)

I can send you an unpacked version of this prod. It's probably not possible to repack it though. Just drop me a PM with your email in case you wanna have it. I guess KrazyK wouldn't be too happy if I attached it here without asking him first...
