Cube thing
« on: October 05, 2008 »
I messed around with this for awhile, it's not a scene intro though so this will be the only place I release it.

It's for a friend who wants to use it on some computers in his shop so the "logo" will say "STUS COMPUTERS".

I should have finished it a lot sooner than I did and in the end there were things I wanted to do but with so many things to write I had to decide to just finish this and cross it off the list :)

Thanks for the help I had off everyone here. Especially Jim, Rbz, Hellfire.

Runs smooth here.

The jumping of the cubes seems to be changed compared to the
old version - is it possible that you changed something there ???

I like your attention to detail. One of the most striking things about this demo is the consistency visually. You have carried the theme of squares through everything. The cubes tie in nicely to your blocky text and the checkerboard ground also ties in with the cubes visually. I also like the colors you are using for the cubes.

I had some ideas you might try, but without seeing them it is hard to tell.

What about trying using the Xor texture for the cubes? It may make the logo loose focus though in all of the cube texture complexity.

The upper part of the screen is a bit static and blank, what about adding some form of motion to compliment everything else moving around?

Thanks Mr. Outlaw :)

Those are ideas worth trying out, hopefully I'll get a chance to do them. It's always nice to have your comments.

As already said, very very cool :) I particularly like the motion of the cubi text, smooth and subtle.

And it ran perfectly on my computer.

Very smart indeed - Nice one Shockie.

The only thing that happens on my pc, is that the music starts first and there is about 40secs pause before the graphics appear.

Looks fine.
You could try to give the lower/right edges of the logo different shades of grey.

Crashes on exit for me. :(

One thing you might want to do is add a
Code: [Select]
ShowCursor(0);
before your main loop.  That will turn off the mouse pointer.

Only one solution...Post your code, and, just like Bagpuss' mice, we will fix it...!

There's something strange going on with the transparency of the logo:

Or is it a feature  ???

It was a quick hack to extrude the font Hellfire and I didn't do a very good job of it, it does look kind of strange.

The problem I had was the logo I was given for the intro didn't fit at all and I had kept that guy (stu) waiting for too long for his intro, in the end I just wanted to finish it and get on with other things.

Looking at the finished thing I feel a bit of shame because it's another thing I started that went off the rails. Especially after the nice suggestions I had from you guys.

Sorry!  :-[ Maybe I'll finish something properly one day.  ^-^
