How do you create your logos?
« on: August 18, 2008 »

I've seen some really nice logos around lately by the members here. I was wondering what programs people are using. I see many 3D looking fonts and such but I cannot tell if they are rendered in a 3D program or drawn. I would be quite happy to pound them out in Microsoft Paint (my normal spriting program) if necessary, but first I would like to get a feel for how my fellow coders and artists work.

It's not a good idea to ask programmers for graphical advice ;)

What Hellfire said!

Scene artists I work with use a variety of tools though, things like 3D studiomax for 3D stuff, and various wireframe creation programs, even Adobe Illustrator.

Lots of 3D stuff gets finished off in photoshop.

There's plenty of people who still do pixel art, Kruze of Titan is one that springs to mind, he's really good too.

MSPaint, usually.  I have Photoshop but only use it for processing, not drawing.

I would use photoshop, but it wants to treat shapes as individual objects and doesn't seem to want to draw single pixel width lines without anti aliasing. Am I wrong?

PaintShopPro
Photoshop
Various 3d programs none of which are installed on my new puter  :P

Don't matter what you use. A good artist (not me) depends not on tools but on inspiration and perspiration.
practice, practice, practice and when u think u got it down......... more practice
No substitute for doing it over and over until its almost automatic. Then the inspiration will come at some point.

A good 3d logo can be done in MS Paint or anything ---- koala paint anyone? LOL
Look at the great logos made on Amiga with Deluxe Paint. Not the most high end drawing program by today's standards, but in the hands of a talented artist some amazing things were created. 32 colors 64 with HB on ? yikes!

As far as PS AA ? Yep a straight line will have none but a curve will have AA does away with the jaggies. Work in 100% resolution to see what it will look like. Or work in MS Paint and be happy with no AA.

PO - you can set the brush width to anything you want...in pixels or with variable antialiasing.  Just right click the brush and choose.

i usually don't create logo's, i create whatever come to mind as an idea at the moment either is a logo or a picture or a wallpaper or whatever an artist has in mind.

depending on the circumstances i may use 1 proggie or 4-5 to get to the final outcome.

i mainly though use photoshop for most projects and if i use other proggies first, then i use photoshop last for a retouch. :)
