[Android] Yummy Plate
« on: November 03, 2013 »

Hi all,

I was a bit busy last months - that I did not manage to be active here a lot. Besides I managed to release a small Android game. It's a really simple one-button-game. Mainly done to gain some experience in creating a native android app. The tech behind is all web tech. I was coded in pure Javascript and ported to Android using the CocoonJS environment.

Please feel free to have a look at it (if you own an android device). It's of course free to play:

GET YUMMY PLATE

Any comments and good ratings are very welcome ;-)

Best,
benny!

Hey benny,

That's a crazy game. One UI thing - the (?) button on the home screen isn't so clear. I was trying to find the instructions again after playing the first time and it took a while. Maybe it should be a menu item? Or maybe not!

The gameplay is good (for what it is!). I think maybe the angle the yummy you're shooting goes a bit too far left and right, but maybe it would be too simple without this.

Anyway, I tried it on a Nexus 7" (newest generation - I think 1.5Ghz snapdragon and 2GB RAM) and it runs great. Minus points for purple/pink high score bar over a white/pink background and no sound (or are my earphones broken?) and bonus points for an absolutely bonkers idea.

Hey Yaloopy - thanks for your feedback. I will have a look at your points. Unfortunately I do not have any sounds implemented in this version so far. Will see.

Glad that it works on your Nexus 7.

Best,
benny!

Runs fine on my Toshiba AT300 (a 10" tegra3 tablet running Android 4.1).
I didn't really like the one-button concept, though.
Most of the time you're just waiting for the right moment to tap.
I think the game would be more rewarding if the player had more influence on what's happening - how about affecting the direction by sweeping?

Edit:
Also works fine on my Samsung Galaxy S+ (GT-I9001) and it's much easier to play there.
Probably because it runs somewhat slower and the resolution is much smaller.
The game makes much more sense here.

Thanks a lot for testing Hellfire. It's much appreciated.

About the swiping control. I will definately think about it. Saw some friends of mine trying to swipe into the direction where the yummy should go. So, I guess you are not alone who thinks that this might be a better control.
