New Megadrive Console
« on: March 17, 2009 »
Yup and it is out on MAY 1ST........

It got 15 Games Built in and can Run USA/JAP/UK Megadrive CARTS   Nice!

Will 32X Carts Work on New console?

I am Afraid not...which is a shame!

Anyway  here the PICTURE of NEW MEGADRIVE CONSOLE

Futher information blow

Retro gaming fans will be in for a treat in May, as Blaze has announced it is launching a "new" version of Sega's classic console, the Mega Drive.

The console is a plug and play device and will come with 15 games built in, including Alex Kidd, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Golden Axe and Sonic And Knuckles.

However, Blaze has also said the console will play all old Mega Drive cartridges from all regions. Best get digging in your loft for your old favourites.

You might remember that this is not the company's first attempt to bring the brilliance of the Mega Drive back in to modern culture.

Last year the company burst in to the spotlight with the release of its handheld Mega Drive console, which got thumbs up all round from reviewers. Here's hoping its full console is as impressive.

Blaze's Mega Drive is set for release on 1 May, and has an RRP of £39.99. You can pre-order it now from Play.com for £37.99.

Hopefully compatibility is good with this one. Note that many of the current aftermarket players suffer from inconsistent compatibility with certain games. Some of the NES players will not play games like Castlevania 3 for example.

If you want a region free solution for the original, simply hunt down a game genie by Galoob as I have.

Yep some classics missing from the list, I see 2 possible reasons, 1) sega/game dev wont let them have those titles because they have plans for them, 2) there titles there going to sell for people to buy and plug in for those that dont have old games.

Its likey a bit of both with alot of the retro compilations for current consoles.

Still a welcome sight for me though.

When Sega stopped making consoles a few years ago I was saddened so hopefully this console will be a success for them.

Yes I am a bit of a fanboy.

Sadly this will make the price of carts rise perhaps.
People better start stocking up on classic games before their prices go through the roof.

I've always been a massive fan of Sega, have all of their consoles except for the Dreamcast.
I've not been too hot with Nintendo, as it's either Mario or a Zelda clone. N64 showed some promise.

I guess there's not that many classic Sega titles, as possibly it'll cost them too much to buy into the rights.
You never know Sega themselves might go back to console development, where as nowadays they concentrate on Arcade Technology and software development.

Seriously Clyde, get yourself a gamecube and buy a copy of Ocarina Of Time, it's maybe the most emotive game that I have ever played. I had the same sad feeling when I finished it as I have when I came to the end of a really good book, that is to say I really enjoyed it but at the same time I am sad that there's not more of it.

The plot twist half way through OOT is excellent.

Zelda is a great reason to get a Nintendo.

and Madworld is looking like a great reason to get a wii. Infact, come next paycheck, that's exactly what I'm doing.
I love semi-colons way too much ^^;

The problem with the Mega Drive (or any other console) emulation on the Wii is that there are some games you might not ever be able to buy for it.

With PC emulators, you can obtain all the roms you want if you know where to look, but this is a legally grey matter, so I'll stick to good old cartridges for any games I cannot get for the Virtual Console on the Wii.

Not sure if this might be breaking the forum rules (In which case, one of the admins, edit this post please), but I've always said that if it is out of print and unlikely to see a re-release, why not download it? Who are you harming? Why do companies get so stuck up about it?

That said, I've always prefered to have physcial copies, where I can. The only roms I own are 'Conkers bad fur day' (because listening to all the bleeped-out swearing on the xbox is pointless) and 'Klonoa Heroes' for GBA as it out of print and incredibly hard to get hold of if you don't speak Japanese (amazon and ebay japan have it, but no import sites do -.-)

Very few of the available roms are in the public domain. I know companies are not allowed to search your hard disks for illegal copies of copyrighted material at the moment, but I'd hate to be caught out.

If they had a service through which you could legally purchase roms and run them on an emulator, I'd use it. The VC on the Wii is a possibility, but the range of available titles and consoles is so small I'll hang on to most of my physical media for the time being.
