Good stuff

It's about time you did something with the routines you make.
I'm surprised though, given the stuff you've done in the past like the Nice City engine, Dart racer and the F1 game that it would be a demo you were gearing up to.

I originally did the SDL port in a PC were it seemed smoother to me. However, both versions look jerky in my own PC

I have the slight clue that maybe it's the music player. Next time I will plan a demo in Freebasic or C, I will try also BASS music player or compare how the movement is with music disabled. And then maybe ask some coders at Pouet

And I Need to get an Amstrad Emu and watch the 8Bit demos.

I tried stripping fmod out of a few of my programs and it made no diference

Even things that were running very fast, like 300-400 fps seem to get the odd glitch for no reason, with or without waiting for v synch.

Maybe I'll check it oneday soon. I remember some older effects I had, without music, they looked smoother. But maybe I am mistaken..
I think there is the option to vsync or double buffer iirc, but enabled or disabled, there was no diferrence! I read in the doc that it only works for hardware that support it, else you won't see anything ;P

Heh,. I've discussed that posibility in the past with Pouet people, but they didn't liked the idea. So, I just stick in what we have now..

p.s. It's special to me because the basic demos are from a quite diferrent community, that is a whole scene on it's own without having much connection to the regular demoscene (but knows it). It's so special so that I thought it would be nice to have a unique category. But since we have our own communitiy and sites, we have categorized basic prods there. Though, I think we still miss a quickbasic demo site with a lot of stuff (all demos and single effects categorized). For Freebasic there is AAPs site. But for quickbasic demoscene, I had it in my dreams to start one. It's in my plans since ages. If I ever got the time..

It's a pity that sometimes when Basic stuff gets released over at Pouet it gets shot to bits because of large file sizes. There is little that can be done about the file sizes and I've had comments in my own stuff that it should be released into the Wild category.

It seems to me that every platform you can think of is supported over at Pouet, it's a pity that not all development languages are supported.

I've seen some really amazing stuff done in Blitz Basic for instance, Stonemonkey made what was for me the most impressive Blitz Basic demo, it was all software rendered and was a fly around a city, inspired by Vice City and had a really cool 3D engine that supported lots of stuff, real 3D clipping, perspective correct textures, camera paths, mip mapping, the whole lot.

It's a real shame that; who sets the rules for what's a demo, it makes you kinda laugh. There are some Dark Basic demos around pouet, and most of those have no trolling / flaming. It would lovely to see a Basic category, some of those pouet netters do in fact like the odd basic flavour. But as they say, you can't have your cake and eat it.

It was a while back, that I saw them. And I only know of them, as I was trawling the DBPro shores. If I can hunt them down I'll post them. I cant remember the teams behind them either. Doh.

To extend on the demoscene, it would seem by one word comments without any reasoning at all. It's not what you know, it's who you know. Very sad indeed.

I dunno about that, When you look at a lot of the top demos there is a very high level of skill and expertise and that's probably what a lot of people are expecting, true there are some that feel a single word put down is acceptable but that aside a lot of the seemingly cruel comments may just be some peoples way of saying that they recognise some potential but to impress them you're gonna have to work at it.

Very true, and Thats the thing though, if it aint OGL or ASM. It's not going to really wow the judges.

That aside I enjoy creating special effects and demos, and thats the main thing. If someone else has enjoyment through what I do, then that's an added bonus.

Well, yes. Demoscene seems to be more harsh, also the quality and work behind some of the good demos is something that I can hardly reach ;P

You know something? This is why I liked this place and also the quickbasic/freebasic communities. There are fewer people here, the spirit is a bit diferrent, more friendly I'd say, also we are coders who exchange effects and stuff most of the times, "hey look, I did this!" "Cool mate!!!", there is a bit diferrence in this aspect on the basic scene. I am not sure why this happens..

But since I was born in the demoscene, I love her (even if she has too high standards for me ;P), and I still want to see what I can achieve there (Till today I never managed to finish a fully designed demo, I was mostly hacking with some random bunch of effects I did and we never had too active gfx/musicians/coders in eveyr group I was involved anyways, putting myself too

). So there are dreams for me. However, I can still enjoy the mostly codewise asm intros, 8bit codings, etc. And doing some basic stuff here and there at times (I wish I had time for more of these).

So, I am between here and there. And I've learned (I think) to not care much about harsh comments..

I think it has alot to do, with people of the respective forums appreciating the hard work and speed issues etc within Basic lingos, that it takes to produce something visually magical. Im sure if you'd ask Shockie nicely, he'd add a QBasic heading to the code places.

It also has to do with the sites being well managed by the Admin and Mod teams. Some places, mostly official sites stink, as their left to go out of control, and all is put upon the shoulders of the main dude behind it all. Or the fact, they don't like hard work. I don't find official websites to be that user friendly.

Just a few of my thought and opinions.
