Leaving scene

Hi all,

I thought end of last year to leave the scene (Shockie thats why, in the main, I didnt want to commit to an admin role here). I want to go back to my old days of graphics programming without restrictions of size/style and also to get away from the horrendous bitchiness and scene politics. I was persuaded to stay a while and give it another go but it didnt work out for me. Well its a bit like the son of the Third Duke of Uxington over Wye saying hes leaving the royal family - who cares? Well truth is it means  less time online and less so-called demo oriented stuff which also means less of this forum.

Before I go its time to make a confession or two ;-). Most of you know me as taj, but also I was sek, auld, copabars, mess4u and a few other names. Of course shockie and druid both knew as they have rules about mutliple identities and false accounts and I wanted to be fair with them. As such Ive done 3 4ks for different groups, 16 1ks and a bunch of 32b releases as well as one intro and that 4k framework that has become ubiquitous. My best achievement was when I won evoke with Inferno 4k where I beat gargaj, mentor and loonies so I can say I did good once. Id like to have done it again at say breakpoint but honestly I cant be bothered now.

Yet the best place in the scene and the time i had most fun was writing code for compos here and posting silly comments in the hangar. Also I learnt so much here which is always a great feeling. Thanks shockie for the forum. Its probably the best place in the scene. The very best of luck.

Taj, Sek, Auld, Mess4u, What can I say?

You filled my greetings list all on your own  Listen, there's nothing bad in needing to take a break and go. Actually you know, nothing will change when you do go. It happened to me, I had too much of it myself and I actually sold my computer, I was that sucked off by it all. I dissapeared for the best part of a year, and guess what? When I came back it was better. My friends who I thought were lost came back and now this forum is here.

Your framework has helped so many people in tiny coding, and in fact out of the whole scene, to me you were always auld/titan, one of the most highly respected coders ever. I have an immeasurable amount of respect for your stuff and also great empathy with the way you feel too because I've been there myself.

Your problem is perhaps that you care about what you do, and when you have feelings like that for your artform then it is easy to be upset by others who perhaps don't have the same level of understanding of it as you do, and it can hurt when you feel you are on your own taking shit from assholes at pouet who don't have a clue.

You gave more to the scene than anyone of them, you have done a lot, you have a lot to be proud of.
I hope that you code only when you want to code, I still hope to see you around here when you can be around here, as for not commiting to the admin role, that's ok. In the short time you had been here you made me see exactly what needs changing around here to make it better.

I can definately just second that shocky just wrote. The short time I am a member of this forum
I really did respect every single line who posted here. Just look at my last entry in the purebasic
section - your code is on so many harddrives around the world - everyone uses and learn from
that.

Taking a break / or even leaving is a personal decision and should be respected as well. Altough
it is very sad and I hope that you stay with us anyway. Nevertheless, be sure that you will be
waiting for you with open arms.

Like shocky, I sold my computers several times, too. I spent so much time with it and spent so
many high telephone bills ( bbs-times ) that I thought I should change my way of life. Neverthe-
less, I like the scene ( even if I am not really active in it anymore ), I like its spirit, the creativity
and so on. That's why I am still around and very happy to find such a cool place like this forum.

Ok, taj - wish you all the best - take your time and good luck to you, mate. It is very an honour
to hang out here with a guy like you !

Although I don't post much on here at the moment, I still check the forum more or less every day, and to hear that you are leaving to do other things saddens me a little..... I have seen a lot of your work that you have posted here, and can only look on it with admiration and respect...... So with that I say good luck with all your future endeavours, and like others have said do what makes you happy and sod the rest, coz at the end of the day were not here long enough to be unhappy...... Good luck Taj, hope to see you post again when you feel it is right to do so.....

HEY taj ,

One things for sure that I knew you were talent coder and everyone always have break on coding or leaving the scene but they always come back to it. So when U have time that feel right to come back and post the forum on here to see how you are as you have remmy that everyone on here is very supportive for you or anyone.

All the best Taj as you always put your mind to it when come coding the "IMPOSSIBLE MISSION".

I am sad to see you leave, never guessed you were Auld/Titan, nice surprise!

I remember when Nick left, and as he said, we stayed strong. If you ever choose to come back, we'll be here, else; we'll still support you. I personally didn't get to know you much while you were here, but that doesn't mean your leaving doesn't mean anything to me!

You're a cool dude. Do what you have to do, if you feel you have to leave the scene, go ahead. Just know we'll all be here if you come back

I left "the demo scene" back in the early 90's, and I don't feel like I have been a part of it since. All the stuff I have done with blitzPlus and now BlitzMax have been for fun and for the love of old style demo/intro coding. At some point during the early 90's the parties became too big for my taste, and the attitude started to go downhill as well.

I have had fun just coding for fun and not thinking about what other people think about the releases. I have had a couple of big breaks, and I think that everyone needs that every now and then. I wish you all the best with your time away from it all. Take care and do drop in every now and then if you feel like it.

Lots of people have their own ideals to what is technically the scene. And you have your reasons Taj dude, and you will always be remembered as a legend for the stuff you've contributed to Demos. I have a sneeky feeling you'll be back as something inside you will miss it. Obviously not the nit picking and ego ranting that goes on too much, but the conjuring of effects and squeazy them into such tiny prods.

This is a sad week for me, first you leave introvert an then Shockie said "DBF is dead"
Wham said he is leaving too...

IMHO, all you need is a break from all this stuff, something like 6 months is OK

I just can't believe that you will loose all your hard work on tiny stuff, the framework,
sound synth, etc... They are very impressive, and I'm your big fan for all that great work.

Sometimes I think to leave it too, and then I remember that I have friends here and I love
all this demo coding stuff, the learning process is great fun as well.

Well, you can leave the "scene" but why leave your friends ...

Tbh, it really hurts that Wham has gone away for a while or maybe more too. This all just feels wrong. Something good has to come out of this.

Actually Taj, Wham, Rbraz made a good point. Why leave your friends too? We'll miss you if you do.

I at least take about 3 months off from the scene during summer months.

Breaks are necessary. Keeps stress down.

thanks for the kind words guys - Im amazed. Im not giving up coding or even gfx coding but no more scene or demos (Ive done gfx for years without even hearing of the scene).

Hey sorry to see you go. Sometimes its nice to do something different, change of scenery and all. I'm often like that when I get bored or fed up. Then after a while old things start to seem new again. Anyway you should still drop by now and then, but in the meantime have fun
