Author Topic: [MAGNIFICATION] WIP (Read 10516 times)

Hi all,

I just checked my calendar and realized that I will not have
any time in the upcomign week to create something cool for
this competition. I am terribly sorry for that. What I have is
a really unfinished prototyp of just testing some very basic
motion. Had something in my head - but I simply cannot manage
to finish it in time.

That's why I call it WIP (work in progress). Sorry for that guys.

You can click on it to activate a fish-eye view (that's the part of
magnification). The shader was slightly modified by me - the
orginal author is frank reitberger. I wanted to extend and
code my own - but again ... no time

@Shocky:
How about activating the [ flash ] tag so that the flash movie
is shown within the post ?

Brownian motion

Yup, that was my initial intension - to simulate something
like a look through a stethoscope ...

Any news about embedding/showing flash files directly. Should be able
to configure via SMF admin panel or so ? Or are there any concerns
about security/stability regarding embedding flash content ?

I don't think it's as simple as that Benny.

I need to look for a modification that does it, as standard the only html allowed is;

Ahh ... just thought that because there exists a Flash BB-Tag
for Flash it would be easy......ohhh ... googled a bit ....
could you have a look at, please ?

"Admin -> Edit Features and Options -> Embed Flash into posts"

Maybe this is what we wanted.

But again, if this causes you too much trouble it is not worth
the effort. Personally, I would find it very cool to directly
embed some flash movies (maybe for tutorials, too)... but please
don't spend too much time on it just because of me.

This does not exist in the admin console sorry.

Cool entry. The interactivity adds an extra layer of depth.

Does Flash 9/10 have the ability to export as an executable?

Cannot say for sure. I could imagine that Flash CS3/4 (the IDE) has
an Export-Function which says export as exe. This simply means AFAIK
they package your player and your SWF file.

But I only use free opensource tools for my Flash stuff yet. (FlashDevelop
and the free Flex3.0 SDK to be precise). So, I cannot tell for sure.

However, I saw numerous application around (free-, shareware) that
wraps your SWF around the flash player and wrapped this all into an
windows exe.

I see. Flash 8 has the ability to export directly into a .exe file, but it is called "Windows projector" which, as you said, is a package containing the .swf and the Flash player.

I didn't know there were open source flash developer programs - I'll let my students know so that they can download them and use them at home.

I still can't get my head around how you did that magnifying effect - brilliant.

This has got a lot of potential - too bad you don't have a bit more time, Benny.
If you just replace the filled circled by alpha-blended sprites with some microscopic textures (google helps) I can imagine it looking pretty slick already.
Don't know if that's even possible with flash, though...

I'd use Fireworks to put the texture onto a PNG image, then import it into flash as a rasterized bitmap.

It would work.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Much appreciated. The idea is very good. And
alpha-blending should be possible with Flash. Well, if time permits I will have a
go ...

Yup, the flash SWF format itself is open source. Then Adobe offers a free
Flex SDK and there are a lot of open source projects producing good tools.

If you are on Windows, I really recommend FlashDevelop as the IDE. It is
really good.

Nop, doesnt seem to work. I wrapped the flash on my first post in this thread
with the FLASH tags but I does not seem to work.

I worked out why that tag was not working, you can do it from now on, in fact you can see the .swf working in your top post now.

Yeah. How cool is that. Thanks a lot Shocky. Personally I really
do like this feature to directly show embedded Flash files within
a post.
