Hi guys..
The last hours i have tried to create something for the Magnification coding contest on this forum... The intro is not finished but due fact of some reasons i will show you here a preview version... The mainpart is not really finished yet, because...  a) i am not sure if the intro except the compo rulez as the intro is atm... b) Sine the intro dont use any timers and textures > 512x512 it would be nice to get your feedback if the intro works well and smooth your system....   c) I am not really sure atm how to design the mainpart for the final version... so i have added a small helpscreen where you can change some settings (look n feel of the intro) by pressing the keys... (the keys even works when starting the intro and beeing in the intro part where the titlepic will be shown)

This is the version i had finished for the contest deadline... but sadly i was to tired or clicked something wrong, because i attached the JPG instead the ZIP version (i cant believe it)... so sadly the very bugy v0.4 is in the contest... if you want, you can try out this version, which should works a lot better because a lot work has been pushed the last hours before deadline into this version.. here are some changes:

Updated v0.5
- should be now 100% fps independent and works on all pcs in same speed.
- title and credits image in higher quality and adjusted colors a bit
- credits image reworked a bit
- added new bacterial object
- added and extended the interactive user mode ^^ (not all ideas added)
- now just only two files and only ~690 KB (for both files) with own simple tool coding for datafile loader
- added scroller with greetz and so on...
- some other stuff... just check it out..

That's a good one and very well designed, va!n.

Personally I like it with a lot of noise fx - but I would leave
the configuration menu for more flexibility.

Nice one. Looking forward for final version!

It downloads at 1.5 kb from that site :/

Got it now. It runs very slow and jerky for some reason on my laptop. Different effects dont seem to change the fps, the music plays smoothly.

@all:
Thanks for all your feedback and nice you like the preview version! ;)

@benny:
The config menu was original planed only for the preview version, so people can play with it and report about their favorite settings i would use for the final version ^^ I didnt had in mind to release the final with this feature...  but possible even the final will come with such a user defined config menu (hide/unhide if user wish) ^^ we will see...

@spitfire:
Download from the server with only 1,5 kb/s? Thats strange and should not happen! Normaly the server is very fast! Thanks for your patience to complete the download and test it!
Could you tell me something about your config (CPU/Ghz, RAM, GfxCard/RamSize)? Maybe it slows down, because the TitleImage is handled as 800x400 texture... Maybe a 512x512 texture for the title image may fix it... same for the image in the main part... However i think the noise stuff is extreme slow... (but when pressing F3 or F4 i think, this function is not called and demo should run smoother...)   I will take a look and hope i can fix the prob, so you can enjoy the intro in a smooth way too ;)

@shockwave:
Nice you like it :) Normaly i added the settings stuff/menu only for preview version, so people can tell me what settings they wish to see in the final version! But i think i have to agree because i liked user defined interaction on some old amiga intros/demos/cracktros too.. so i think the final version will come with this feature too (hide/unhide by user)... Maybe with some more flexibility to change stuff by the user ^^ Let wait and see.

Also think the custom settings should stay in. I prefer it with the F3 noise. (no noise?)

The original bacteria-image imparts a good perception of depth which gets somewhat lost in the wobbling and rgb-overlay.
I would suggest to cut the different bacteria from the picture into separate textures and animate them individually.
You could also try to apply the rgb-overlay only to the background or only to the bacteria to make it look less flat.

2ghz cpu, 1 gig ram (500 available at time of running) @ 997mhz , intel graphics chipset
Pressing f3 makes it only a tiny bit faster, it still jerks, so it must be somethign else.
Its probably my machine though so dont stress too much.

Runs smooth here. Some more thoughts:

- I would speed up the scroller a bit
- I like Hellfire's suggestions of seperating each bacteria an animate it seperately.

But deadline is near ... do not know if you can implement it in time.

@benny:
okay... first i will tr to get the FPS independent stuff work... (so i can use this technic for any future project instead frame based moving like +1) ... then i will take a look to some other things (correct fading), i.e. splitting the bacterias... but now and first i have to go to a client to help his daughter for scool and repair its pc...
