Plugins should work in Desktop mode, but I'm looking into ways of converting my Flash coding into HTML5, of which there appear to be many :)

So you guys are getting really excited about a new version of Microsoft Windows?
I don't see any feature that makes be go "wow, i totally want that".

Programms for Win8 can be coded in nearly any language
I'm wondering what the other languages were good for...

All I know is that it breaks Code::Blocks on my friends test computer today.
We configured an PDcurses program on Windows 7 and Windows 8 using a fresh install on both. Apparently they added some new shell so CodeBlocks C and C++ programs use the wrong one by default.

I'm glad to see that one doesn't have to use their Fisher Price huge arthritic button interface all the time. I'd rather 30 menu options instantly visable in an ugly grey menu instead of 14 large glossy icons.
Then again I hate the Unity desktop for Linux for the very same reason.

I'm going to catch a lot of flack for this thought, but modern computers really hide the interesting bits from the users.
Soon computers won't have icons, they will have holes and colorful wooden blocks that one pounds through shaped holes to activate programs.
People really think a computer is a magic collection of icons anymore and the computer works on unicorn farts, pixie magic, and rainbows.

Maybe the magic is lost on me since I don't own a tablet nor a smartphone.

I sure am grumpy tonight.  ::)

I agree - the problem I've had with XP's default Start Menu and Control Panel when compared to Windows 98 (for example) is that the My Computer is off the desktop and hidden away in the Start Menu, and most of the Control Panel icons are hidden unless you enable them.

From a technical point of view, it was easier to find what you wanted in 98. Vista and 7 have made this even worse.

Windows 8's default Metro interface has taken this even further.

Windows 9 will replace everything with one giant button, with the direction we're seeing.

It sounds like the Mac Book Wheel all over again.

Bill Gates: Wow, people really seem to like this apple shit, let's make our computer more like a mac!

Everyone: But, we bought PCs because we hate macs! Don't do it!

Bill Gates: Who said that?
I love semi-colons way too much ^^;

That's the plan.  To abolish coding and turn it into design, augmented by user interfaces, I know I've said this before but I'll say it again.  It's good news for people who do actually understand programming because we'll be earning shitloads in the future when there's nobody left to maintain all the legacy code.

I'll bear that in mind when we get replaced by one man with a degree in touch screen button pressing, and my employer realises their mistake :D

I use XP (mostly) at home, and I still have one of the few remaining XP computers at work, because the document scanner won't work with Windows 7.
