Anybody else on it? What do you think of the service so far? And of course, the blocking of google invites on facebook?

I've only played with it for a few minutes. Seems like a mix between facebook and twitter to me. I can't say I dislike it, but haven't been wow'd yet.

If enough of my friends use it I'll probably swap over and ditch Facebook.

Will I haven't been wow'd, it does appear very slick, and in the face of the new load of facebook 'features', g+ is looking by far the more attractive option. but again, there aren't that many people on there yet

Technically I guess Google+ is 1000 times better than Facebook. Additionally, I really like their concept about sharing information (combination of twitter + facebook status messages) using their circle-mechanism.

Nevertheless, I read an article of the CEO of linked saying that Google+ will have a really hard start to get acceptance, simply because most people do not have the time to use more than one/two social networks. And I guess there could be some truth in it.

This would not be the first time in history, where a better technique/concept loses.

The second problem is based on the idea:
"Why are you on Facebook".
You are on facebook, because your friends are, so you can communicate with them and know their lives. Ok
Now, take Google+, a new social network. Even if you go there, your friends will not be there, why, because first, they are not IT people (so, they will not try the last new thing out) and secondly because they don't see why to change (Facebook is ok for them).
So, Google+ will have a hard start, but it has also a high level to fail.

In fact, the problem is the same, with Instant Messaging (IM). You are on MSN to talk with your european friends. On Skype for others, and GTalk for some geeks. If you would like to move from Skype to something more open / less black box, you can't since your friends will not follow, and since they don't really care about all your crap Linux stuff :D

The main advantage of Google+ is that my Mum probably isn't going to use it :)

Dunno, I think all these social networks stink. Wow, that even rhymes. Sooner or later Google is gonna buy Facebook (or vice versa )
anyway creating a new network called Foogle, where you can only log in with your newest IPad v10 built by Apple in a joint venture with the Beelzebub himself. And people are gonna use it, just because it's new and you're uncool if you don't use it...
Hey, I got an idea, let's create our very own social network and call it DBF+ I'd join that immediately using my Pentium II laptop and IE 5.

By the way I'm on the two networks. But I think the problem of FaceBook will be FaceBook itself... it is becoming more and more complicated! The last update is horrible...
Google is realy more simpliest... but there are some things that miss: "groups", "events" and all that make FaceBook essential today...
