Thoughts on stuff and a thank you...
« on: October 24, 2006 »
Warning, this is going to be a long post!

I thought I ought to make and download a backup of the whole site tonight.. I try to make sure I do so every couple of weeks, you always hear of stupid people attacking sites so it's a habit I've got myself into.. It seems to take a long time these days so I thought I'd have a browse of some of the stats while I was waiting and I was quite surprised at the results...

Take this month for instance, we've had 3,828 unique visits and we get an average of 159 unique visits each day..  We've already transferred nearly a gig of bandwidth this month..

I'm really chuffed with this.
Most of our users are in the US, however we have visitors from all over the world.

We're actually starting to feature in the search engines now..

Code: [Select]
Links from an Internet Search Engine
5 different refering search engines Pages Percent Hits Percent
Google 170 84.5 % 170 33.3 %
AltaVista 27 13.4 % 334 65.6 %
MSN 3 1.4 % 3 0.5 %
Yahoo 1 0.4 % 1 0.1 %
Google (Images) 1 0.1 %

8% of visitors bookmark us.

Fancy stats huh?
Considering that this place didn't even exist 6 months ago I think that's pretty damn good.

There have been some posts on here saying that the forum wouldn't be what it was if I wasn't here but I don't buy that any more, it's gone past that point. Something has happened here that I had secretly hoped for.. There are a startling mixture of people on this board.
Some can code very well, some are beginners, some have no intention of coding.

There are plenty of members of famous scene groups registered here now and posting happily amongst those of us who are learning.

It's fucking incredible to see how much everyone gives to this community, it's frankly staggering to see how much it has grown in such a short time.. It will be awesome to watch it get bigger and bigger :)

Really, you can take this post as me saying, here, look at what you've helped us to create.. Thank you.
Thank you all for getting on and helping each other out, thank you all for each andd every post you make to the board, and most of all, thanks to everyone here there is a forum where people who have an interest in coding visual and audio effects can post and share their ideas without the backbiting and bitchieness of some of the other places.

I can't wait to see what the next 6 months bring!!  :||

Happy birthday old chap!
Hopefully you will be rodgeringly drunk tonight.
Hopefully you will not attempt to move the forum to a new server.

Thanks for the forum. I know you arent the only one working on it but you seem to be the key guy here so whilst I think congratulations are due all round, special thanks should fly straight to you.

I'll raise a glass of red tonight at home in tribiute.
Any excuse  8)

Well, I only found this place a couple weeks ago, but it has become my favorite forum to visit. This place has real quality, something you hardly find anymore on the internet. I have learned more in the past couple of weeks than I have in a long time and it is all due to the willingness of you guys to help a graphically-challenged programmer. :)

I have said it before, but I will say it again: Thanks for being patient with me and more than willing to help.

Me too. I am so new that I learn more everyday. I may not post in some of the threads, but I do read them. It has become my favorite site too. And ditto to Taj. I know there are lots of great people here including Clyde, but Nick you found me in a deadend situation when it came to coding and in a place I was scared to try. I had given all but given up completely. You have brought me here and I am learning AND having fun! So, thank you and I'll toast my Ice Tea to you! :)

:-)  Kick ass...

Although you may have assumed that I have built this forum up to it's currently outstanding level single handedly... you would be wrong.

@Shockwave - You post an average of 17 posts a day.  I've yet to see an unanswered post here, and to top it all of this forum is funny as fuck.

:-)  You're stuck with me.

It's really neat that we have such a good group of regular people here and it's nice to see your thoughts too. What I was thinking was that at Christmas we could have a for fun awards ceremony so that people can show their appreciation of the folks that have helped them, probably throw in a few other things like most improved coder, ultimate spammer etc.. Could be a laugh?  :D

Although I haven't been able to contribute too much for a while, I do really appreciate this place and believe it has great value, not only for people looking to get into demo effect coding, but for coders in general. Keep up the great work.

I havent been contributing much lately due to other things taking my time away from coding etc. But i try to pay a visit to the site each day and see whats happening. Hopefully in the not to distant future I can get some coding done and look to expand my own horizons with the help of the folks here.

Anyway nice job everyone and keep up the good vibe
