The thing is that if you want to get a good set of speakers for your laptop, the chances are that they would need an external power supply.

Best place for you to look for them would be in Maplins (there's one by asdas by City link in swansea, next door to PC world), alternatively there's also a Maplins in llanelli too, if you like I'll have a look with you on Saturday.

I think you've outgrown the laptop to be honest with you though and anyway, a good pair of headphones would be a better idea for the laptop than external speakers..
If you want to get a kicking sound system it's more suited to a desktop really.

Maplins sell all the bits you'd need to build a PC too, which is a nice thing to do :)

Sound advice as always there Shockie.
I've been thinking about going the desktop route recently so i could kill two birds with one stone.I'll have a chat with you and find out what spec i need.I think i prefer the Maplins in Turkland the one in Swansea brings back too many painful memories.
Cheers dude

Yeah I hate the way laptops can only output a measy sound that only superman can hear properly. I love Maplins we have one here (also really close to PC World) best thing about Maplins is that it has all the components you could ever want and more, the worst thing about my local one is that no matter what you ask for they need to order it in, unless its already on a shelf.

I'd have a look online before buying components retail, places like Maplins and PC World are pretty overpriced by comparison.  I can personally recommend the following sites:

www.overclockers.co.uk
www.microdirect.co.uk
www.komplett.co.uk

Helpful if you have someone experienced when you're choosing parts as some items might be listed as OEM (original equipment manufacturer) meaning that they won't come in nice retail boxes and might not have things like cables, manuals etc.  OEM parts are usually quite a bit cheaper though so if you know what you're doing you can save some cash - however even retail items will be cheaper online.  You also need to make sure all your bits will work together, although those sites have great support - email your shopping list to tech support at Overclockers and they'll tell you if it's all ok and make suggestions for improvements.

some decent speakers for my laptop
PC-speakers are commonly far off from "hifi" and are intentional sounded to appear "fat" and "brilliant" when tested for the first time.
In contrast to home-hifi-speakers, most of them have thinkend fundamental sound (to hide that there is no actual bass) and tend to have too much treble which appears as "brilliance" but quickly get's annoying.
Also don't get attracted by power-specifications, most PC-speakers will just melt if you feed them with 10 watt for more than a minute.
On a long run you're usually happier with neutrally sounding speakers (or a good set of headphones), so just take some time to check them out in the shop.

A serious recommendation depends on whether you want to take the speakers along or install stationary, how you want to use them (mostly gaming or music?), what kind of music you're listening to and what you expect generally.
